The International Marina Institute (IMI) is hosting a three-month webinar series on hurricane topics beginning today (1 August) in advance of its one-day Hurricane Preparedness and Recovery Conference in October.
Three one-hour webinars will be broadcast the first Wednesday of the next three months at noon, Eastern time, where participants will learn more about intensity and timing forecasts, the cone of probability, and other maps and tools that can help marina owners make critical marina or boatyard decisions.
The first installment, ‘Hurricane Forecasting and the Tools You Can Use’, features Dan Brown, senior hurricane specialist/warning coordinator meteorologist, National Hurricane Center, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The one-day conference, ‘Weathering the Storm’, is designed to prepare marinas for the forces of a hurricane or severe storm and to supply critical information on the success of the marina’s recovery.
IMI, which is a subsidiary of the Association of Marina Industries, has gathered 10 experts in the industry to share their knowledge and experience for this 29 October conference.
Following the day-long event, IMI will take marina professionals on a Marina and Boatyard Study Tour in and around the Miami area. Facilities toured will have had varying degrees of impact from last year’s Hurricane Irma.
Marina managers from each facility will share their experiences in dealing with Hurricane Irma – what worked, what didn’t, and what they would do differently next time.
